Remodel Mess Cleanup
Almost every home remodel has its set backs. Whether it be from the age of the home, the contractors (making simple mistakes like stepping on a water supply line that wasn't disconnected), or the discovery of mold behind cabinets. This home in Paradise Valley was recently renovated but it had one minor problem before the flooring could be installed. The problem was a dirty floor. There was dust, overspray (from installing the drywall, you can see the overspray near the base of the drywall), and very minor mold in one of the bedrooms. The homeowner requested we cleaned as much overspray and dust that we possibly could in the rooms not containing mold. In the room containing mold she wanted it long gone! We took care of all her needs and wants quickly, effectively, and what the homeowner thought was a fair price. We are licensed and certified in Water removal, mold mitigation, document drying, smoke/soot removal, biohazard, vandalism and more! In Arizona the only required certification is water removal and dehumidification. With that being said we are certified in all the services we provide. In order to get most certifications, the company will need to take a 3 to 5-day course to how to best treat each situation. Mold in your Paradise Valley home

There are many common misconceptions when it comes to mold in a living space. Arguably the biggest one being that you can completely rid your living space of mold. Mold spores travel through the air attaching to your shoes, clothes, hair, or they simply blow into the house if you have the windows open or by opening the door. Some leaks you just simply cannot see. If the leaks go on long enough and depending on where the leak is, you can have mold in the parts of your home you cannot see. With that being said, there will always be some amount of mold inside your home.
The second biggest misconception is using bleach to clean an affected area. I have spoken slightly about the issue with bleach in a previous post, but I will reiterate why you should not use bleach. First, using bleach does not kill all the mold spores in porous areas like drywall and/or wood. In fact, if you do not have proper air flow in the area you could put an even bigger risk on your health with the protentional of producing toxic gas (mixing bleach and ammonia). What do we recommend? For small DIY mold problems, we recommend putting antimicrobial dish soap on a wet rag and wiping the affected area.
The last misconception I will speak about is that all Black Mold is the worst mold to have. There are thousands of different molds! Some molds are green, purple, red, blue, white and the dreaded black. The name of the mold that is feared to be the one and only Black Mold is called Stachybotrys. Therefore, it is important to have a professional come out and do mold testing, so we know, and you know what mold is present in the home.

I have been recently asked why we do not do our own mold testing. Well, by reading the title you can assume that it is a conflict of interest. If we did our own mold testing why would our customer 100% trust us with the results? Would we get greedy and just say the house was positive for mold or even asbestos? I truly believe we would not lie about the results of a test (if we were to do our own testing) but to ensure our customers have 100% trust in us it is easier to have a third party do the testing. The Speed of Mold

The general "rule of thumb" for mold beginning to grow is 24-48 hours. With that being said there are a lot of other factors that can play into this. One of which being how humid the area is. If the area that is affected has a small amount humidity it most likely will have less mold growth than a place that has a lot of humidity. Just because you cannot see it does not mean it isn't there, but if you see it here are some tips on what to do.
If you see visible signs of mold in your home in most cases, you can easily clean it off. Some of those few cases would be if it is on tile/grout, on metal or plastic tubing (toilet supply lines), and on concrete. However, bleach should NOT be used. Your safer bet would to be used dawn dish soap. Note, you should only wipe the mold away it is a small amount, if it is large scale you are going to have an even bigger problem on your hands. You should always find the source of the problem when discovering mold, if you cannot find the problem you should hire a professional, so you do not have a reoccurring problem. Mold is not a major problem at small quantities, however, not knowing the source and having a reoccurring problem can be a major problem in the long run.
What to Do:
- Stay out of affected areas.
- Turn off the HVAC system and fans.

- Don’t touch or disturb the mold.

We often post pictures of what mold can look like in your home. What you do not see is how tiny mold spores can be and how they can be such a hassle to clean up. The picture is at a 100X magnification under a microscope if that gives you an idea of how small mold spores are. This is one of the many reasons why it is safer to remove drywall and other affected materials from a home then replacing our cleaning. Although it is impossible to remove every mold spore in a home we can remove enough to make your home safe and healthy!
Some health problems mold can cause or irritate are wheezing, rash, watery eyes, runny nose, coughing, can trigger asthma symptoms, can weaken your autoimmune system. Getting your ducts cleaned can help prevent the spread of mold and can also give you warning signs. If there is visual signs of mold that can mean multiple different things. 1) You may have a water issue (leaky pipe, or had a flood that wasn’t properly dried, etc.), your home is too humid, carpet in bathrooms, and so on. Mold in the Attic of a Paradise Valley Home

Sometimes what may look like a roof leak turns out to be an A/C condenser line leak. This was the case for this Paradise Valley home. There was staining on the ceiling in their home, so they requested our help in finding the problem, that meant going into the attic. Upon first inspection while using the FLIR we saw colder temperatures on the ceiling and then we found the mold(pictured) in the attic. We placed one dehumidifier in the room that had the water staining to eliminate the chance of mold growth in the living space. Then, we removed the insulation, wet drywall, hepa vac affected area (including studs, drywall(that wasn't removed), and the A/C itself), and upon homeowners request we sprayed antimicrobial. Misconceptions of Mold

There are many common misconceptions when it comes to mold in a living space. Arguably the biggest one being that you can completely rid your living space of mold. Mold spores travel through the air attaching to your shoes, clothes, hair, or they simply blow into the house if you have the windows open or by opening the door. Some leaks you just simply cannot see. If the leaks go on long enough and depending on where the leak is, you can have mold in the parts of your home you cannot see. With that being said, there will always be some amount of mold inside your home.
The second biggest misconception is using bleach to clean an affected area. I have spoken slightly about the issue with bleach in a previous post, but I will reiterate why you should not use bleach. First, using bleach does not kill all the mold spores in porous areas like drywall and/or wood. In fact, if you do not have proper air flow in the area you could put an even bigger risk on your health with the protentional of producing toxic gas (mixing bleach and ammonia). What do we recommend? For small DIY mold problems, we recommend putting antimicrobial dish soap on a wet rag and wiping the affected area.
The last misconception I will speak about is that Black Mold is the worst mold to have. There are thousands of different molds! Some molds are green, purple, red, blue, white and the dreaded black. The name of the mold that is feared to be the Black Mold is called Stachybotrys. Therefore, it is important to have a professional come out and do mold testing, so we know, and you know what mold is present in the home.

Leak Outside Mold Inside

Sometimes when things (especially leaks) are out of sight they are out of mind. When it comes to water, this should never be the case. If you see even the tiniest of leaks fix it or have someone fix it for you unless you want a new kitchen. Just know that new kitchen is coming out of your pocket because most insurance companies do not cover mold. In the picture shown you can see that there was some sort of leak because of the ground being muddy, the wall being discolored, and the wall having moss. The moss/moisture then went to the inside of the home undetected for who knows how long. Roughly half of the kitchen cabinets, flooring, and some appliances were removed. Moral of this job is do not put something off if you notice something is wrong. If you fix it now you won’t be paying for it later.
Biohazard Restoration
