What is "Monsoon Season" & How Does It Impact Phoenix, AZ

7/1/2021 (Permalink)

Monsoon Season, Storm Damage, Water Damage Restoration, Phoenix, AZ

In Arizona, we now look forward to the Monsoon season starting on June 15th... Every year the news channels start the "monsoon watch" and daily rainfall totals on this date. Commercials for the news channels talk about how to get warnings for heavy downpours, flash floods and haboobs (or dust storms if you remember the news pre 2008).

We look outside though and see beautiful sunny days, no clouds in the sky and surely don't see any monsoon storms coming. So what really is the deal with the "monsoon season"?

In 2008 the National Weather Service changed the season to have specific dates from June 15th to through September 30th. Pre-2008 the monsoon season started when there were three consecutive days with an average dew point temperature of 55 degrees and ended when the storms stopped.

Why the sudden change? In short, the change was made to keep track of monsoon data easier and more consistent.

No matter what date the monsoon starts or ends, you can always count on SERVPRO of Paradise Valley to be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If one of our beautiful but powerful storms makes its way into your home or business call and we'll show you why we are "faster to any disaster".
